Join us for this fun and informative program and learn about the hidden dangers of bottled “medicine” sold by Snake Oil Salesmen and the claims of phrenologists as well as inventions of questionable merit being paraded before an unsuspecting public in the 18th and early 19th Century America. These salesmen lacked the knowledge of the medical profession and had a total disregard of the facts and consequences of the bottled elixirs they would sell. There were claims that these elixirs would cure anything and often contained alcohol, cocaine and heroin.  A Q-and-A session will follow with light refreshments served.   Event

Tea & Tunes – An Afternoon of Elegance and Style Our 8th Annual Tea & Tunes was held February 9, 2013, a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Guests enjoyed a selection of teas and an elegant light luncheon and were able to tour The Banning Museum. Lovely and amazing string music by local artist Maestra Valerie Geller graced the event. Judging from the gorgeous hats and finery many of our guests were wearing, old fashioned elegance truly never goes out of style! Victorian Mourning Lecture- October 27, 2012

Come join us as we explore social practices, superstitions, mourning attire, jewelry, and rituals practiced by Americans during the Victorian era. There will be a question and answer session after the lecture along with a walk-through of the Museum’s Victorian Mourning Exhibition.
