  China Collection:

Haviland & Company white porcelain plate decorated with rust colored ferns and flowers. This is part of a nine piece ice cream set, which includes a platter and eight plates. The set was made in Limoges, France in 1879. During the 19th century ice cream was a luxury which was made in rectangular block and sliced with knives rather than scooped. Many Victorian families had particular dishes for special occasions when ice cream was served.
