   DID YOU KNOW?
When in San Francisco, CA, Phineas Banning always stayed in the Occidental Hotel. In fact, he died on March 8, 1885 in that hotel after sustaining injuries months before his death.

  Dolls:

Porcelain dolls like those displayed in the nursery were a luxury during the 19th century. There were no doll factories in the United States until very late in the century, so dolls were either homemade or imported from Europe.

The doll displayed in the Girls' Room is a 19th century Spanish doll with papier-mache head and cloth body. She has wonderful accessories including a metal mesh purse, lorgnette (eyeglasses), earrings and bracelet.
