2021 Wisteria Scholarship Recipients Revealed

This year, in an effort to help more Banning High School seniors who may have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Friends of Banning Museum doubled the usual number of Wisteria scholarships to twelve recipients and awarded each of them $2,000 to continue their education. Although we would have preferred to honor these amazing students in person at the annual Wisteria Regale, we were able to get to know them a little and learn about their dreams and aspirations through self-videos and Zoom. We would love for you to get to know them too because they are awesome. Click Here to View the Presentation.

Congratulations to this year’s winners: Emmanuel Andrade, Hailie Castaneda, Isaac Cortes, Malia Garcia, Patrick Hannifin, Jasmin Mena, Yadira Contreras-Mendez, Carolina Nuno, Carlos Quintana Raya, Alondra Razon, Pilar Reynoso, Tiffany Rodriguez.

Essays were truly fantastic this year. Below are a couple of submissions that really stood out:

Patrick Hannifin is one of our outstanding 2021 Wisteria Scholarship Award Winners. In this creative essay, he imagines a conversation with Phineas Banning. Patrick graduated from Banning High School and will be attending UC Berkley!

Malia Garcia is off to UCLA this fall to study Neuroscience! In her beautiful essay, she compares her “Nana” to Phineas Banning.
