FASHIONING THE FAN – Harlyne and Kenneth T. Norris Visitor Center
August 11, 2018 – January 27, 2019
The Victorian Era ushered in some of the World’s grandest national and international Exhibitions. These Exhibitions were held in major cities all over the world. They were meeting places for countries and people to display new ideas and advances in science, the arts, and industrial enterprises. This made way for innovative machines that changed the world of textiles, fashion, and fan-making.
Explore the distinct innovations that allowed for greater selections for both fabricating fans and fashionably carrying them. From feathers, lace to fan-sheaths illustrating the fascination with Oriental imagery of the time, we invite you to be visually engaged and captivated by the materials that encompassed the fans of the nineteenth century.
The Visitor Center is open during regular tour times listed to the right under Guided Museum Tours heading.
