Keeping History Alive Series Kicks Off With “Railroads of the Civil War” Lecture

Join us on Saturday, November 16 at 11am in the historic Banning Museum Barn for  “Railroads of the Civil War” presented by Jay Kelly. This talk re-starts the Keeping History Alive series that has been on hiatus since the Covid pandemic. Sepia toned train and railroad graphic from the 1800s

For this insightful lecture, Jay will speak about the important role the railroads played during the Civil War. He will delineate the new tactics that evolved exploiting railroad technology in warfare, some of which were still in use as late as the Vietnam War. His presentation includes many photos taken during the Civil War period.

Jay has had a life-long interest in railroads and has served as President of Southern California Garden Railway Society for several years. He holds BA and BE degrees in engineering science from Dartmouth College and MS in Bio-Medical Engineering from USC.He spent 36 years at TRW/Northrop/Grumman in Redondo Beach and retired in 2006.
